Prepare for Egypt

Egypt Travel Guide

Everything you need to know before visiting Egypt — from visas and packing to local customs and money tips.

Best Time to Visit

October to April offers the most comfortable temperatures. Summers (May–September) are hot but great for Red Sea diving with fewer crowds.

What to Pack

Light breathable clothing, strong sunscreen (SPF 50+), comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sunglasses. Modest dress is appreciated at temples.

Visa & Entry

Most nationalities can get a visa on arrival at Egyptian airports ($25 USD). Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months.

Money & Tipping

Egyptian Pounds (EGP) is the local currency. Credit cards are accepted at hotels and larger restaurants. Small tips (baksheesh) are customary.

Getting Around

Hurghada International Airport (HRG) connects to most European cities. Domestic flights to Luxor and Cairo are frequent and affordable.

Dress Code

Beachwear is fine at resorts. When visiting temples, mosques, or local villages, shoulders and knees should be covered as a sign of respect.

Staying Connected

Local SIM cards (Vodafone, Orange, Etisalat) are cheap and widely available. Most hotels and cafes offer free Wi-Fi.
